What is the best way to remove the green mould from the brass on my wooden toilet seat?

I have a wooden toilet seat in my bathroom but the hinges have turned green over the period of a few years.

Is there a way of removing this safely and appropriately while not harming the seat (or the toilet for that matter..!)?

It sounds like oxidation to me rather then mould as such. For that you would probably need to get brass cleaner from the supermarket.
